Want to Learn More About the Human Mind?

Amazing that the human brain and mind is so vastly evolved and yet, what do we really know about it? Not as much as we should considering that without it, we are not much in the way of a viable life-form. Perhaps it is for that reason that it is my contention that everyone should learn more about the brain and mind they own. So, I'd like to start by recommending a very good book to you:

"The Mind" by Anthony Smith (Author of 'The Body'); Viking Press, New York, NY; 1984

This author has written so many great books that it is no wonder that this particular book was so incredible. You see, previously he had written;

  • Blind White Fish in Persia

  • Sea Never Dry

  • High Street Africa

  • Throw Out Two Hands

  • The Body

  • The Seasons

  • The Dangerous Sort

  • Mato Grasso

  • Beside the Sea

  • Good Beach Guide

  • The Human Pedigree

  • Animals On View

  • Wilderness

  • A Persian Quarter Century

  • A Sideways Look

The book starts out with large chapters on Evolution, Animal and human anatomy and how the body and brain grow together. He also discusses the entire process of brain formation as we believe it to be at the scientific level. He also explains how damage brains are caused during these growth periods. He then puts all this together and shows how our brain works and how consciousness occurs and is used.

But he hardly stops there as he gets into memory, abilities, and use of the senses. He even discusses how human brain abilities and anomalies take place, how super IQ is formed and what happens during malformation and damage. He discusses the reptilian section or old brain and how some of the brain therapies were archaic in nature such as shock therapy, lobotomies, drug use and many others.

This is a great book and it ought to be read before one goes and start reading all the latest research papers on fMRI scans and the future of human-computer interfaces. Please consider this great book for your personal library.
